Knee Pain Treatment Options

Conservative Care

Most patients’ knee pain is managed quite effectively with conservative treatments. These include medications, braces, physical therapy, other modalities, and injections. Book an appointment with one of our providers, and we will assess the cause of your knee pain and develop a custom treatment plan that will get you back to doing what you love – free from pain and dysfunction.

Knee Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy is a minimally-invasive procedure used to diagnose and treat intra-articular joint conditions such as meniscus tears, ACL tears, and loose bodies. It requires small incisions where your surgeon will insert a camera to examine the knee after filling the knee with saline. This allows better visualization of the knee. Arthroscopy is done as an outpatient procedure, and may or may not require physical therapy depending on the procedure performed. Austin Orthopedic Institute’s surgeons are highly skilled in arthroscopy to help you get back into action as soon as possible.

Knee Replacement

There are two types of knee replacement: partial and total. Knee replacement surgery replaces the weight-bearing parts of your knee with plastic and metal components, allowing you to participate in daily activities after recovery. Recovery from knee replacement includes taking prescription medication to manage initial pain, as well as attending physical therapy in order to improve movement.
